Traditional Iranian Clothes – Different people in different cities and regions have their own special costumes. It is true that almost 70% of people now wear the same clothes and the styles are very similar, but we cannot deny that every ethnic group and every nation has its own unique style and clothing. There are countless types of clothing in Iran, and the women’s clothing has a special beauty that attracts the gaze of the beholder. Today we are going to present some of the most beautiful Iranian women’s clothing in this article.
You should know that the diversity of climates in Iran has influenced the history, behavior, culture and of course dress of each region and people. Unfortunately, this type of clothing is rarely used today and is produced in such small numbers that it is unlikely to be worn again.

The most important thing about Balochi women’s clothing is the color. In fact, it is this color that makes many photographers who come to this region choose Baluchi women’s clothing as their subjects once and for all. Baluchi women design their clothes with Jameg (similar to shirts) and Pajameg (pants) that men also wear, with subtle taste of long shawls (Sarig) and Taku (a type of veil). Gilan women wear rumpled clothes, loose silk shawls, vests, skirts, and veils. The standouts were their ruffled skirts and sequined tank tops. Two kinds of fillings are used in Gilan women’s clothing, interestingly these fillings have different names in different regions of Iran.
It is believed that Shiraz women’s clothing was sewn by several women in the city. Khus is a cloth woven from silver mesh, and the weaving of Khus spread from India to Shiraz. Use to decorate trousers, scarves, hats and children’s clothing. Shiraz people have a very popular fabric called Big Khus Shawls for local women of Shiraz. Specially woven fabrics are used for bridal wear.
Abyaneh women’s clothing is one of the most popular traditional women’s clothing in Iran. The clothing of local Shiraz women consists of shirts, sheets, scarves, padding, veils, socks and giveh (a type of shoe). They sometimes use a night gauze, which is a checkered rectangle of silk cloth. Younger girls wear yellow turbans and older women wear red turbans.

There are different types of Hormozgan women’s clothing such as; Kandureh, Gavan, Oshkom, Noshteh, wrinkled, Ajam, Arabic and plain which all offer a variety of styles for women. They usually fold the veil in half and wrap it around themselves, or wear it like an Indian saree. Bridal veils have a separate history, they typically use a silk veil with green flowers and beautiful tassels, embellished at the back. Also, they use a special veil with some beautiful decorations.
They have a variety of clothes such as; Jafi, Shawl, Kolonjeh, Kelav and Kelakeh these are actually the main garments for women in Kurdistan. Jafi is actually trousers that men also wear, and women in the village wear them when they work, but most women wear loose, thin trousers.
Kolonjeh is the torso worn on a long skirt called Sukmeh, which is sewn from velvet fabric. Shaul is made of a beautiful dress with ties at the back and decorated with colorful sequins. A Kolkeh is a shawl used as a hat substitute, with long black and white silk threads.
Golvani is an essential part of Ilam women’s clothing. Women’s clothing in this part of the country has more traditional forms, such as that of the Achaemenids. Golvani in their language means a stuffing or shawl made of silk, usually with traditional patterns.
Thoughts On Iranian Traditional Clothes?
Of course, you might be interested in seeing young girls wearing smaller Golvani’s as scarves. Today the scarf is considered a souvenir of Lorestan. This type of clothing was very common in the early Median and Achaemenid periods, especially in this region.
Women’s clothing in this area is divided into 3 parts, Sarpush, Tanpush and Papush. Like old-fashioned ruffled skirts, long shirts and long scarves. The most common female attire in Azerbaijan is the Chadra, a head scarf.
The traditional clothing of Iranian women in this region is beautifully designed but dark in colour. Women in Bushehr wear long, rumpled skirts, light black scarves, brightly colored masks, trousers known as Chit, and shoes known as Kush. The formal dresses of Bushehr women are mainly loose, also known as Arabian dresses, with exquisite decorations. Women in Bushehr usually wear a veil. The Persian community, supported by local restaurateurs and chefs Fred Soofi, Fereshteh Zakery and Sara Tabrizi, put together a beautiful presentation showcasing the rich heritage of the Afghan and Iranian communities through fashion.
